Frequently asked questions

Q. Is heat-stabilization compatible with antibody-based analysis such as western blot?

A. Yes.

Q. We search for cancer biomarkers using LC-MS and label our tryptic peptides with differential labeled tags. Can you label stabilized proteins?

A. Yes, it is only the tertiary and secondary structure that is changed by heating. Tryptic peptides in an LC-MS experiment can be labeled. Intact proteins can also be labeled with fluorescent dyes, eg.2D-DIGE experiments.

Q. Does the Stabilizor system also inactivate kinase and phosphatase activity?

A. Yes, all protein activity is stopped including that of kinases and phosphatases. It is this feature that facilitates quantitative proteomics, peptidomics and phosphorylation studies.

Q. Is it possible to stabilize other sample types besides tissue?

A. At the moment the technology is commercially available with ‘Maintainor Tissue’ sample cards. Sample cards for treatment of cell cultures and biological fluids are under development to be used with the same Stabilizor system.
